Program:
- X-rays and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV, XUV) radiation in nature and human civilization. Synchrotron radiation and its main features. Generations of synchrotron radiation sources. Wigglers, ondulators. X-ray free electron lasers.
- Photoabsorption in VUV and XUV. Gross structure of the cross sections, photoionization channels, threshold features, giant resonances, Cooper minima.
- Photoelectron spectroscopy. Direct and shake transitions, electron correlations, angular distribution of photoelectrons, double photoionization.
- Spin-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. Dynamic spin polarization and polarization transfer, relativistic effects, Fano effect.
- Autoionizing states and resonances. Classification of autoionizing states and methods of their investigation, resonance profiles in the cross sections and photoelectron parameters.
- Auger effect. Normal and resonant Auger effect, Auger cascades, angular distribution and spin polarization of Auger electrons, coincidence photoelectron-Auger electron spectroscopy, post-collision interaction.
- Pump-probe experiments. XUV photoionization from laser-excited and polarized states, dichroism and magnetic dichroism.
- Complete experiment. The concept of complete quantum mechanical experiment, realizations of complete experiments in photoionization of atoms, complete experiments in Auger decay.
- Nondipole effects. Origins and examples of nondipole effects, nondipole effects in photoelectron angular distribution and spin polarization.
